Libya's sovereign wealth fund has filed a criminal complaint against Prince Laurent of Belgium, accusing him of fraud and extortion linked to his bid to reclaim funds from a failed reforestation project.
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Libya s sovereign wealth fund has filed a criminal complaint against Prince Laurent of Belgium, accusing him of fraud and extortion linked to his bid to reclaim funds from a failed reforestation project, lawyers said on Friday.
Africa's largest sovereign wealth fund is suing the brother of the King of Belgium. This Libyan fund has been frozen since the Libyan revolution of 2011 and the military intervention in the country under the auspices of the UN. The case dates back to 2008, when Muammar Gaddafi still ruled Libya and was received in Western chancelleries. At the time, the Libyan government made an agreement with an association created by Prince Laurent of Belgium, for a reforestation project, all for 17 million euros.
