Liberia: NEC Certificates Five of 15 Winners of The December 8 Special Senatorial Elections Liberia: NEC Certificates Five of 15 Winners of The December 8 Special Senatorial Elections Share MONROVIA – The National Elections Commission (NEC) on Wednesday certificated five winners of the just ended December 8, Special Senatorial Elections in Liberia. The certification is in keeping with the election regulations. Four of the five winners certificated are from the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) with one from the People Unification Party (PUP). Those certificated are Prince Kermue Moye of Bong County, Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence Grand Bassa County, Abraham Darius Dillon Montserrado County and Jonathan Boycharles Sogbie of River Gee County. Emmanuel Nuquay of the People Unification Party (PUP) was also certificated as winner of Margibi County Senatorial Elections.

Massive Win for CPP

In 2018, the CPP was in control of 13 seats in the Senate, while the ruling CDC had seven, and the remaining 10 seats were shared among independent candidates. However, CPP lawmakers over the time have voted along the agenda of the ruling CDC of President Weah and did little to checkmate the Executive or to properly critique bills coming from the presidency or the ruling party-dominated Hosue of Representatives. 

NEC Releases Initial Results

In several counties, CPP candidates leading so far The National Elections Commission’s first official preliminary results have put candidates of the opposition Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) in a comfortable lead in four of eight counties out of the fifteen counties. NEC Chairperson, Davidetta Browne Lansanah, yesterday reported that of the votes processed so far from 423 of the total of 1983 polling places, the incumbent Senator of Montserrado County, Abraham Darius Dillon of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), has obtained 44,692 votes, constituting 60.8 percent, while his main rival, Montserrado County District #5 Representative Thomas P. Fallah of the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), has so far received 26,697 or 37.3 percent.
