Northern B C patients wait just to get on a wait list as HR reports show doctor shortage continues

Staffing shortages, access to personal protective equipment still a focus for BC Nurses Union

Staffing shortages, access to personal protective equipment still a focus for BC Nurses Union SHARE ON: (Files by Brendan Pawliw-MyPGNow) BC Nurses Union President Christine Sorensen stated our province continues to have the lowest ratio of nurses to population in the country. Sorensen brought the issue to light once again as its National Nurses Week in Canada. The issue is of great concern in the north where our region has 25% fewer nurses when compared to the rest of BC. This often puts a huge strain on the current staff at Prince George’s University Hospital. “Right now at UHNBC, you do not have enough nurses to manage your critical care areas like the ICU or many of your patients go from all over the north to care for that either have COVID or are in more complex situations.”

Pair of BC Liberal MLA s believe Budget 2021 missed the mark

SHARE ON: (Photo supplied by BC Liberals) Prince George’s University Hospital was left off the list for medical facilities in line for replacement or upgrades in this year’s BC Budget. Nearly eight billion dollars in health infrastructure projects are planned over the fiscal period, which includes the new Surrey Hospital and Cancer Centre and the new St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. In addition, new hospitals are slated to be built in the Cowichan and Dawson Creek Districts as well as Terrace and Stuart Lake. This was a major disappointment for BC Liberal MLA Mike Morris who told Vista Radio the city has a 1950s’ structure that is not adequate to meet modern medical needs.
