Taiwan to inject over $18 million in Saint Lucia's community development project The Taiwanese government will grant $18.5 million in extra support for Saint Lucia's community development program (CDP), the Caribbean nation's Prime Minister Phillip Pierre said on Thursday, as the Asian island attempts to strengthen relations.
On Thursday, the National Security Minister tabled the motion to put in force the Suppression of Escalated Crime Police Powers bill, as one of the mechanisms to address this “extremely serious” situation. He also had concerns about the distribution and use of illegal firearms in the country to perpetuate criminal activity and the infiltration of gangs into the communities.
The matter of intra-regional air transportation has been talked about for decades by regional governments and yet there are no tangible plans to positively address this matter that seriously impacts social and economic development, particularly in the eastern Caribbean. There have been numerous studies done on air connectivity in the Caribbean region containing recommendations that have fallen on deaf ears.
