Power spot price nearly doubles in March BusinessWorld 4 hrs ago © Provided by BusinessWorld THE Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) said Thursday that the average spot market price in March hit P4.16 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) or nearly double the February level of P2.22 per kWh due to an increase in unplanned generator outages and higher demand. The price data are from the wholesale electricity spot market (WESM). In a briefing, IEMOP Manager for Pricing Validation and Analysis John Paul S. Grayda said that “there were several generators on emergency shutdown due to unplanned outages.” He said this caused supply to drop last month.

Lower electricity rates expected in next billing

Published December 17, 2020, 7:00 AM Filipino consumers will likely have an extended “financial respite” in their next electricity bill, as price trends point to continued softening of prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market. In a briefing with the media, Engineer John Paul Grayda, manager for Pricing Validation and Analysis of the Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) indicated that settlement prices in the spot market hovered at P1.75 per kilowatt hour (kwh) within December 1-10 this year, despite the manifest increase in demand. The initial average price for December had been a downtrend from the P1.87 per kWh in November; and also way lower than the P1.97 per kwh in October.
