STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. Expert ice sculptor T.J. Neary of Dongan Hills said the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has given him more than enough time to chill.
This month, he is ready to fire up his carving tools for an over-the-top ice sculpture event on Staten Island. Neary and his ice sculpting company, Touch of Ice, have partnered with The Ice Farm to host “Big Apple Ice Extravaganza,” a weekend-long, drive-thru event at the borough’s Corporate Commons.

Veteran Ice Sculptor Brings His Talents to Downtown Binghamton
Large blocks of ice were carved by Stan Kolonko, who owns The Ice Farm in East Syracuse.
Kolonko first began making ice sculptures when he was training as a chef. He s competed in ice sculpting competitions in Alaska, Canada and China.
Kolonko and his team start with 300-pound blocks of ice. The blocks are transformed into a wide array of objects, including a giant ice throne which was on display for several days in front of The Colonial restaurant on Court Street.
The Colonial and other downtown businesses are sponsoring the Ice Fest, which will feature live music on Friday evening.

HAMBURG, N.Y. The Hamburg Fairgrounds is hosting a new COVID-safe family friendly event in February, featuring ice sculptures.
More than 90 sculptures will be carved from 150,000 pounds of ice as part of the Ice Sculpting Masters Winter Wonderland Drive Thru event. According to the Hamburg Fairgrounds, some of the best sculptors in the world will be creating larger than life displays.
