way with the baseball bat and the death and destruction stuff . he knows what he s doing. and it it makes his defense of january 6th look pretty terrible and pretty, you know, pretextual because it s obvious that he has no problem. fomenting or encouraging, you know, violence , at least among some of his supporters. his defense of january 6th is indefensible. okay it s not. it s not defensible. it was it was violence. i mean, he s showing images of it. it s not like i m lying to people. you can see it at trump s rally, and it s startling to see despite the fact that it is perfectly ah, within the vein of what we have seen from trump. it is a natural evolution of what we ve seen, but it s still startling to see. and i think you know donald trump is really taking the politics of personal grievance to new levels, new heights and one of the biggest differences for me. i covered the 2016 campaign. when i look back at that versus now i see trump back then presenting himself as kind of a savi

for their crimes here in memphis. we ve also been doing things that included going to city council meetings and going to county commission meetings and asking them to make changes and pass ordinances that would make memphians safer. tensions must be running high, though, lj, so how do manage to you keep it peaceful? what do you say to people? we literallyjust let them know that, like, there are things that we can do to reform the police here in memphis and i think these reforms that we re trying to make here in memphis would spread across the united states because policing is not only a problem here in memphis, it is a problem systematically with black people and police across the united states. so, if we can get these ordinances passed that we re asking for, like dismantling the multi agency gang unit, the organized crime unit, stopping pretextual stops traffic stops, which consist of people being pulled over for headlights being out or tags being expired, that would kind of elimina

stopped. they said it was you know, reckless driving. there s no indication of that. we don t know what happened before the body cam, but what we see is we see these officers approaching the car, yanking open the door, using profanity, driving, you know, pulling him out of the car. they don t say, you know, can we see your driver s license? this is not a traffic stop that anyone, you know, has seen or experienced. well, exactly. the chief even acknowledged that it did not appear to be a legitimate reason for stopping the car. what we would call pretextual. something made up after the fact to say why they stopped the car in the first place. those officers directly involved certainly appear to be operating under the theory that they re in charge of everything that goes on in that town. that everybody will obey them at all times and if not, you will pay the ultimate price as we saw

if you look at the leader of the republican party, donald trump, he is dining with white nationalists and anti-semites. the people that kevin mccarthy just put on committees like marjorie taylor greene and others are speaking at white nationalist rallies. this is, as my colleague said, bakersfield bs, this is all pretextual. and i don t accept the premise that this has anything to do with the conduct of any of the democratic members. this is merely the weakness of kevin mccarthy s speakership that he s so reliant on these extreme members. how can you, on the one hand, suggest that these are some kind of legitimate basis for unseating democrats from committees, and put someone like george santos on any committee. the hypocrisy just grabs you by the throat. so i don t want to dignify the pretext they re giving for any of us. what they re doing is really catering to the most extreme members of their conference. i do, though, want to ask.
