WILMINGTON At a board of trustees meeting Friday, UNCW leaders listened to a presentation of a report on diversity and inclusion, required of public universities across the state by the University of North Carolina System.
Trustees also met in a closed session to finalize the appointment of UNCW’s next vice chancellor for student affairs. Lowell K. Davis, who currently serves as associate vice chancellor for student success at Western Carolina University, was publicly tapped for the UNCW role shortly after the meeting.

NEW HANOVER COUNTY Plans to demolish and reconstruct multiple county properties will be presented to the board of county commissioners March 15.
After years of evaluation and reconsideration, Project Grace is once again top of mind for New Hanover County officials. The name refers to a block of downtown land that houses the county-owned library and parking deck; the plan is to redevelop the site potentially the Cape Fear Museum as well in a public-private partnership.

WILMINGTON Knowing that many professors become eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine within a month, UNCW hopes to eventually operate as a vaccine provider.
The university sought approvals from the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services, the gatekeepers of vaccine supply, but its application has not yet been approved. DHHS officials repeatedly emphasize that onboarding new providers will be a slow process, until the weekly vaccine shipments from the federal government substantially increase in size.

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH â A partnership between developers and the Wrightsville Beach Marina will add 16 boat slips to the marinaâs fleet. Affiliates of Zimmer Development Company purchased the property adjacent to the draw bridge on Marina Street for $4.3 million last July, and construction of four condos on the site is underway.
âItâs going to be a class-A project, very high-end condos,â Lowell Zimmer said. âThese are not just spec condos.â
