WEDNESDAY’S letter about cycle lanes from an unnamed person was interesting. It did however make me realise that there has not been a comprehensive write-up on the council’s cycle lane schemes, so here is my take on them. The A23 would see a greatly improved continuous cycle lanes from Argyll Road, to/from the bypass roundabout, including a new northbound cycle lane. It is hoped the southbound bus lane will not be affected. Changes to several junctions are mentioned. The last time the council attempted to install traffic signals at the Carden Avenue junction, it was likely to cause congestion problems.
The collision happened in Ditchling Road, Brighton, shortly before 1pm. Witnesses say police have closed a stretch of the road. The AA has reported slow traffic in the area as a result of the incident. A spokesman for the service said: There is slow traffic due to a collision involving a car and a pedestrian inDitchling Road at Hollingbury Park Avenue. Police are on the scene. Recovery has been requested.
Brighton and Hove Buses have warned passengers that some services are being diverted as a result of the crash. In a post on social media at 1.05pm, the company said: Due to a road traffic collision in Ditchling Road, our number 26, 46 and 79 services are being diverted from Fiveways, via Preston Drove and Surrenden Road, to resume their normal route along Ditchling Road, near Woodbourne Garage in both directions.
