jay brad on the phone. and in this filing they say one of the items discussed there was a message that donald trump had directly for garland which was he was acknowledging that there was heat building that the country was angry because of this search. and trump said whatever i can do to take the heat down, to bring the pressure down, just let us know. now, we don t know how the justice department feels about that. obviously, obstruction of justice is something under investigation here. so every sort of interaction about the investigation is going to be looked at pretty closely here. but that was a highlight. and there are also a lot of other details in this filing about what happened, including trump himself giving directions in june to make sure that there was participation in this investigation, that they weren t sidelining investigators. and that s the telling on the trump side of things. yeah, absolutely fascinating. we ll wait to see how the
president spoke by phone on august 11th to the top counter intelligence official at the doj and discussed the following message, and i quote. president trump wants the attorney general to know that he has been hearing from people all over the country about the raid. if there was one word to describe their mood, it is angry. the heat is building up. the pressure is building up. whatever i can do to take the heat down, to bring the pressure down, just let us know. i wonder if that was code for, back off, garland. or maybe a mixture between a lin-manuel song and ferris bueller not being able to take the heat. that was cameron fry, for those of you listening from the 1980s. he put an exclamation point, by the way, on this statement. no person is above the law in this country. i can t say it any more clearly than that. and he will be asked again,
the attorney general to know that he has been hearing from the people all over the country about the raid. the heat is building up. the pressure is building up. whatever i can do to take the heat down, to bring the pressure down, just let us know. don, that reads a little bit like the nice investigation you ve got there. be ashamed of something happened to it. the tone of that message. look, i mean we re talking a lot about the mar-a-lago search, because it was an important thing and it s a big thing that just happened. but keep in mind, the january 6th investigation, the criminal investigation that is going, on tom windom in the u. s. attorney s office here in washington, has a grand jury that is focused on that. that thing is probably more powerless to the former president, and there is a lot
defendant. there s no case, really. you can t just file this you know, i want this, kind of randomly. so, that combined with the kind of legal legal arguments on it makes me think this was never really intended to get legal relief. but rather, as a kind of move to make a statement to the public. probably, the part that stood out the most to me is how they confirmed that trump did try to get a message to attorney general garland. and he did so via counsel, this counsel, jay brad, the top department investigator leading this investigation. in filing they said what trump wanted to relay to them president trump wanted the attorney general to know he s been hearing from the people all over the country about the raid. one word to describe it, it is angry. the heat is building up. whatever i can do to take the heat down, the pressure down, just let us know. what did you make of that, ryan? i thought it was really extraordinary that they
