this time they could play off of them. peter, how is that trending, if elected america will drink more? have you looked at the poll? hashtag. hashtag that. the people who are drunk in d.c. are the people who are always drunk in d.c. hasn t moved at all. telling it like it is. peter doocy, thank you for that. it s nice to have some levity. lindsey graham was great. he was. listen, he actually defended the u.s. senate and the house and that was the number one target. it wasn t hillary clinton, it wasn t barack obama, it was the republicans in the house and the senate and then you had lindsey graham on one side and governor kasich on the other side saying we don t have a choice because you need 60 votes and then you need 67 over at the president s veto. so really they were attacking the system because of the way washington works isn t right. right. no wonder washington is
taken up the legislation. as you know, both speaker boehner and mr. leader mcconnell have stated they want to hold votes this week. technically on july 19 when the legislation was transmitted it complied with what the corker agreement was which was the legislation as well as i mean the negotiation plus all of the side deals. members of congress have had all summer to review all of these so-called side deals. you and i can t review them but they have had an opportunity. the republicans don t want to vote on this. they don t have the votes to overcome the president s veto. they know that, this is a fight within the republican party. the agreement will be implemented by the obama administrati administration. what do you make of the latest move to scuttle or at least delay the deal. i think opponents of this deal and not only folks in congress, people lake aipac, are going to be all over the place trying to figure out technical ways to delay or cancel this deal. i can tell you,
senate to essentially sustain the president s veto. it is expected that republicans were going to try to pass a resolution of disapproval of the iran nuclear deal sponsored by senator bob corker, the chair of the senate foreign relations committee. earlier this summer they got the votes to sustain that veto but just this morning senator ron widen became the 41st democrat to support this iran nuclear deal and so that means that they can block this from even coming up for a vote, this resolution of disapproval. that s a big deal for the president it not have to use his veto pen. ron widen, like a lot of other democrats, are saying that essentially this is the best deal that they can get right now, that diplomacy has to be given a chance when it comes to keeping iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, and so a big deal for this president, big deal for democrats this morning. now, we should add the caveat, all 41 of these democrats have to vote to keep this from
and make sure that we can put iran years away from being a threshold nuclear state and concentrate on the terrorist activity and i will be passing my vote to support the deal and sustain the president s veto. what made this such a difficult decision for you? what parts of the deal do you wish were stronger? there a number of things that really have given me angst and pause and still do. i worry that the vigilance over the life of the deal may wane. not for the united states, but with the iaea s enforcement and the world that has been a party to this and complacency could set in. i worry that the additional resources no matter how little that iran would get access to, they could divert to terrorist
congress is back in session this week with lawmakers returning to a full plate, including a vote on the nuclear deal with iran. democratic congresswoman debbie wasserman schultz announcing her support for the deal, and former secretary of state colin powell also backing it. congress also facing deadlines to pay for transportation projects and to raise the nation s debt ceiling, so with so much going on will lawmakers hit the ground running? joining us now to talk about it, sarah westwood of the washington examiner. good morning, good to see you. so here s the quote that was told to jake tap they are morning on cnn. quote, i ll be casting my vote to support the deal, and if necessary sustain the president s veto. the question for you is how big a deal is this considering that miss wasserman schultz is the first jewish democrat elected to the house from florida?
