four year just joining us conversation is jackie alamani. tell me about this first overseas trip really placing vice president harris in the middle of the most vexing policy challenges that the last five american presidents haven t been able to make much progress on. thank you very much for having me. this is vice president kamala harris on the first foreign trip in guatemala and mexico late irtonight adds you noted. we are likely to see and already seeing a shift in tone than we saw in four years of trump and less drama, less bizarre and quite frankly offensive headlines in the trump administration and still policy issues and differences that are vexing the relationships with some allies and northern triangle in particular.
his pattern as someone on the world stage isn t to align himself with traditional u.s. allies, who fight side by side against america i mean, you know, his whole thing with nato is they don t give enough. they fight alongside our soldiers when we go to war. i mean, what is it about him that so rejects everything that has always been in the national interest? it s it s his own ideas of what he thinks bravery or heroism are. let s remember what he described about senator jon mccain. he preferred war heroes who weren t captured. he didn t serve in the military himself. that s all right. a lot of presidents haven t. but he seems to have no real sense of conduct. of duty and honor that that the u.s. military and all of its branches, the vast, vast majority, supermajority as you said, behave in that way. and he doesn t. he sort of he sees them as serving himself. not the nation but himself. and he rewards acts of bravery or those that are touted on fox and friends. unbelievable.

a number of presidents haven t handled this. he even addressed like he was the chose up one to deal with this. he was like, i was obviously being sarcastic, but, yeah, i m going to take it on. there s no subject that i hear the president speak on where he has as much conviction as he does on china. you can hear his voice. the voice gets stronger about it. this is an issue that donald trump before he became president has been speaking about for 20 plus years and he s been very sensitive to the loss of our industries and impact on workers and believes america is being ripped off, rightfully so. he s done a huge service to the american people by educating people about this. not everybody was involved by the industries that were butchered by china. nonetheless, there s a growing consensus in the united states that china is an economic predator. and i think there s something of a consensus globally taking
