very clear, too, that no one, no one, including a president of the united states, is above the law. by the way, today is the six-year anniversary of that speech in indiana. happy anniversary to the president, as the fbi goes through his documents this morning. what a long road it s been. you know, he actually, i guess, in 2018, willie, he passed a law. he signed a law that actually made the protection of classified material even stronger. that is a good thing to do. it is a good thing to do. he said in the campaign law and order party. he was going to protect all classified information. so says it in the campaign. willie, he actually passes legislation. kept his word. he signs it, comes into law. that the penalties for not protecting classified information going to be even tougher because of hillary clinton s emails. yeah, remember the context of that speech six years ago was all about hillary clinton and the emails and the private server that she had.
yeah, remember the context of that speech six years ago was all about hillary clinton and the emails and the private server that she had. it was the focus of his campaign. now, we have, obviously, the much more serious allegation here that the fbi is looking into, that a president of the united states sneaked into his briefcase on the way out of the white house, potentially classified, top secret documents. some reporting we don t know exactly what they all are that some may have been related to nuclear secrets. now, the president twisting in the wind as he tries to explain whether he did it, how he did it, whether the fbi may have planted it on him, whether barack obama did it, too. they haven t quite settled on an explanation for it because there really isn t a good one. well, he was working at home. that s what they said. yeah, so because he works so hard during executive time in the white house, that he had to take some top secret, classified information that could
office. no one is going to be charged with conspiracy against the united states? direct colluding to impact the election? robert mueller and his team are going to charge no one and so, therefore, there would be no indictments coming on that issue of conspiracy directly involving the election and russia. what might spin out of the mueller inquiry, future indictments we don t know. we know he s farmed out several of the investigations to other u.s. attorneys offices but i think it is safe to assume to the extent that anything is safe to assume that there won t be any more indictments on that issue. to that point, the president twisting the truth almost always, cynically in some ways, reckless attacks on institutions in others has said this no collusion, no collusion, no collusion. we ll go through later the people that have been charged and gone to jail but they ve set this standard if you don t catch the president colluding, nothing else matters. that s for people at home to decide
lies. trump going after cohen after being asked about manafort. his former campaign chairman two was sentenced to almost four years in prison for cheating on his taxes and committing bank fraud. i feel very badly for manafort. i think it s been a very very tough time for him. the president twisting the words of the judge who sentenced manafort. if you notice both his lawyer, a high ly respected man said there was no collusion with russia. during the hearing the judge drew a distinction between his crimes and the special counsel s investigation, noting manafort was not before this court for anything having to do with collusion with the russian government to influence the election. the president and his staff refusing to close the door on a pardon for manafort.
so they are willing to dig in their heels and they see the president twisting in the wind here making multiple addresses to the nation and not really being able to move the needle and they are willing to stand their ground. that s part of the reason why you see democrats sort of rejecting this offer even before its laid on the table. they don t necessarily feel the pressure just yet about whether or not the public is blaming them at all for the shutdown. we ll have to wait and see if that changes. president trump is shouldererin the burden of this shutdown and that s why he s negotiating himself but he s not willing to negotiate on the wall and democrats are saying, we re happy to do border security but you have to take the wall off the table and that s why we re at this impasse and it looks like it may continue with this democratic rejection for several weeks to come. with all those people caught in the middle. how did i do? good job. thank you all for being here. still ahead, t
