Council President Tom Hucker says although 42% of residents are fully vaccinated so far, there’s still more work to do. In an effort to accommodate locals, COVID-19 vaccine site hours have been extended. “Having so many vaccines to use is a game-changer for all of us and public health, but only if residents take advantage. The message for our residents is don’t delay. Get your shots today,” said Hucker during his weekly virtual media briefing on Monday.

Statehood The Montgomery County Council passed a resolution on Tuesday in support of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments’ (MWCOG) latest resolution calling for statehood for the District of Columbia. The resolution was first introduced on April 20. The county had originally expressed its formal support for D.C. statehood in February with a resolution spearheaded by Councilmember Glass and cosponsored by the entire council. The second resolution is meant to reiterate the county’s commitment to the issue. Council President Tom Hucker, Councilmember Nancy Navarro and Councilmember Evan Glass were the lead sponsors of the most recent resolution.

Council President Tom Hucker said they are waiting for a staff report on the abolition of the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights, which had established due process protections for officers who were accused of misconduct. Now, civilian boards will be allowed to review complaints about officer misconduct and recommend discipline.
