Strasburg council rejects road expansion project

STRASBURG Village Council members voted 4-2 to defeat a proposal to expand US Route 250 (Wooster Avenue) to a third lane through the village of Strasburg intended to alleviate traffic congestion.
Council members Marty Zehnder, Don Wallick, Liz Dreher and Kathy Burrier voted Tuesday to end pursuing the three-lane concept. Jeff Smith and Dustin Briggs voted to continue pursuing the project. A decision on the proposal had to be made by April 6.
The Ohio Department of Transportation is expected to pave Route 250 through the village this summer. A new water line will be installed on Route 250 north in the village prior to the paving. Judy Bennett of ODOT conducted a traffic study, at a cost of $8,300, which she presented to council stating that an additional lane could be installed. She said ODOT statistics indicate there is less traffic through the village than there was 18 years ago. That statement produced laugh
