Those of us who consider history to be recreational reading started in on Donald John Trump before he had resided at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for a year. Without the deep dive of a PhD dissertation, we seem to have a bias toward post WWII presidencies or so it would appear from the conversations that have sadly become less frequent with the pandemic raging.
Even history buffs find it easier to know the wrinkles of administrations through which we lived or, at least, about which we heard our elders complain. Bush 41 and the Iran-Contra scandal. The price of gasoline under Jimmy Carter. I like to complain about when my second wife and I bought a home on a credit card or so it seemed, when the interest rate was 15%!

Statehood proposals for the District of Columbia have been around for years. Today, however, we have a President pledged to support D.C. statehood. Congress is controlled by the Democrats, whose platform supports statehood. Eleanor Holmes Norton, the so-called non-voting delegate to the House of Representatives from D.C., has introduced a statehood proposal in the current session of Congress.

out. for example, in the andrew johnson senate trial, there were 41 witnesses. president polk once said in 1846 in impeachment situations, congress should get everything unprecedented gag order. it s never happened before in american history that the president has said everything, every witness, every document can t be turned over. and there were obviously some witness, including trump administration officials who defied that and went and testified in congress like ambassador sondland, fiona hill and the like. but bolton and kupperman did not. they instead filed a lawsuit saying we don t know what to do. now while their lawsuit was pending, there was a separate case involving don mcgahn, the white house counsel. and in an opinion by judge jackson, she rejected in the most sweeping, elegant terms trump s claims about immunity and not having these witnesses testify and the like. and the bottom line is now judge jackson s opinion, which says, quote, presidents aren t kings and folks like
and, look, if they really had a principled objection to, b, if they really thought the impeachment process was so unfair, why city going up until the deadline for them to decide? fairness is you know it when you see it. it s a little weird that they ve taken so long. but at the end of the day i think what this means is that there will be an article of impeachment as there should be for obstruction of justice. because, again, if you allow a president like trump or any president to say i unilaterally on my own am going to say no one has to cooperate with this investigation, and i get to label it illegitimate, you re undoing those clauses in the constitution which is so crucial to our separation of powers. that s why every president has not invoked executive privilege in impeachment investigations. and many presidents like president polk have said it has no basis whatsoever when you re talking about impeachment because that s about giving the truth to the american people. and donald trump
