Allentown School Board voted to pursue selling McKinley and Cleveland elementary schools to charity. The board plans to vote on new middle school building plans later this month.
Youth advocates argue that a community center could transform the lives of center city youth by providing them with a safe space to go after school. The two former school buildings are located between 7th and 12th streets, which Community Action Lehigh Valley, an anti-poverty nonprofit, and the Allentown community and economic development center identified as a high need area for youth programming.
