Brussels Airlines And Wizz Will Return To Ljubljana For EU Presidency

Brussels Airlines and Wizz Air will resume flights to Ljubljana from Brussels as Slovenia prepares to take over the Presidency of the Council of the EU. Slovenia’s aviation industry has suffered greatly from the collapse of its former flag carrier, Adria Airways, so it has invested considerable effort into increasing air connectivity.

Slovenia will take over the EU presidency this year
It is Slovenia’s turn to take over the Presidency of the European Council this year, from 1st July until 31st December 2021. When an EU member state takes over, it typically sees a notable boost in air passenger traffic for this six-month duration.

VIENNA (Reuters) - Austria will file charges against a person who has confessed to spying for Turkey’s secret service, and authorities are investigating more suspected espionage activities, its interior minister said, warning Turkey this would not be tolerated.

“This is about an exertion of influence by a foreign power in Austria and this will in no way be accepted,” Karl Nehammer told a news conference on Tuesday.
Turkey rejected the espionage accusations as “baseless.”
There were clear indications of Turkish influence in Austria, said the director general for public safety, Franz Ruf. The new findings came following extensive investigations by Austrian police after violent clashes between Turkish and Kurdish groups in Vienna in June.
January 1st: Portugal takes over Presidency of EU Council – European Union
On January 1st, 2021, Portugal will officially take over the Presidency of the European Council from Germany.
This is the fourth time Portugal presides over the rotating six-month EU Council, since it joined the European Economic Community in 1986.
On Wednesday, Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel handed over her post to Portugal’s Prime Minister António Costa in a video message.
Addressing Angela Merkel, Prime Minister Costa praised the German Chancellor’s Presidency for the “excellent job” at the helm of the European Union.
Costa said “It’s an honor and a huge responsibility for Portugal to receive this baton from your hands and to continue your work.”
