AQUEBOGUE, NY A little lost cat from Aquebogue is home safe Thursday thanks to the caring community who came forward to help find her.
Larrin Gerard said Luna went missing on Monday; she d just had dental work and had come home groggy when somehow, Luna darted out the front door.
Just nine months old and tiny, Luna was the runt of the litter, Gerard said. She was adopted on Christmas Eve from Virginia Scudder, founder and executive director of North Fork Country Kids Rescue & Preservation Through Pedagogy in Aquebogue.
Subscribe She was a Christmas gift to my husband Derek and daughter Olive, Gerard said.

RIVERHEAD, NY A cat who was just a heartbeat away from finding a forever home got lost Tuesday outside Petco in Riverhead.
Carolyn Lowry, of Shirley, had been planning to adopt the stray she found while bird-watching in Calverton.
Lowry said she d been feeding three cats in the woods but found herself growing attached to one in particular, a gray-and-cream cat with green eyes she originally called Mama, since she was the mother of the kitten living outside. Eventually, Lowry changed the cat s name to Birdie because of the sweet chirping noises she made.
