Interlibrary loan and Document Delivery Policy

1. Introduction The National Library of Australia has provided interlibrary loan and document delivery (ILL/DD) services since its inception in 1960. These services are provided to libraries and organisations, as well as to individuals, both in Australia and overseas. Copies and loans are generally supplied from the Library’s own collections. The Library also offers mediated services to obtain copies and loans from other institutions on behalf of requesters. All services are provided on a cost-recovery basis.

Digital Preservation Policy 4th Edition (2013) 1. Purpose This statement outlines the National Library of Australia’s policy on preserving its digital collections, and collaborating with others to preserve digital information resources. The Library’s digital preservation program forms part of its overarching Preservation Program which covers all formats of material the Library collects. This policy should be read in conjunction with the Library’s general Preservation Policy and other policy documents and guidelines relevant to the way digital resources are created, selected, acquired, described and accessed. These can be found on the Library’s website at Policy & planning and Policy and practice statement. Of particular relevance are the Library’s Collection Development Policy, Collection Digitisation Policy and Collection Preservation Intent Statements.

Collection digitisation policy

1. Introduction The National Library of Australia has been digitising its collection in all formats since the early 2000s and is a leader in the Australian library sector in digitisation, as well as in the discovery and delivery of digitised content on the collaborative Trove service. The long-term preservation of digital master files created is an integral part of the digitisation processes. The Library works actively with external funding organisations to grow the corpus of digitised content for research, knowledge creation and enjoyment by Australians. 2. Policy Aims This policy aims to provide a statement of the Library’s current approach to digitisation. It covers all digitisation activities undertaken by Library staff as well as external providers under contract to the Library.
