withdrawal from afghanistan in 2021. the president has aids. the white house i really hoping to avoid a repeat of some of the chaotic scenes that you saw there. in fact, they said, one of the lessons that they learned from that experience was to start beginning these evacuations sooner, and you saw some of these preparation efforts underway really sort of taking those lessons to heart. but certainly the president and his team relieved that this appears to be a successful operation this morning. kevin liptak at the white house for us. thank you. kevin cnn senior international correspondent sam kiley is up next. he is in djibouti. sam what s the latest there in sudan and the people who are trying to get out of the country beyond the u. s personnel? are they able to get out? what do you know? well there is a major international effort either underway or in the planning involving french aircraft. i ve seen those on the airfield here in djibouti americans, of course, canadians
develops. right now all of florida, 67 counties understand a state of emergency as floridians brace for what could be the most destructive storm the state mass seen since hurricane andrew. particularly residents in south and central florida, as moilss say dorian s slow motion could bring massive amounts of wind and rain to those parts of the state. i want to bring in msnbc s reporter live in palm beach gardens florida. what preparation efforts are you seeing under wade where you are? people are not taking this storm lightly, ali. they heard it from the governor of florida. s in a multi-day event. have supplies for seven days at the very least. here along the eastern coast of florida, there is anxiety because people don t foe exactly where the storm is going to hit as we heard from michelle. so in places like balm beach fwardens, 14 miles north of west palm beach residents are making sure they are stocked up and prepared. and i want to bring in the mayor of palm beach garden, mark c
since we ve been here, it s only continued to rise. you can see this house here, the water is almost up to the or it s at the top step, almost at the door really. it s also completely covering the swimming pool in the backyard. this house over here, the red one, it will likely be flooded as well before this is all said and done. that is because this area has already gotten 13 1/2 inches of rain. there might be a little more still to come before the day is done. but really, erica, it is all of that rain from all of those other places that is funneling down into these watersheds. the local river here in conway is about 11 1/2 feet above what s normal. it is expected to get a couple more feet before the end of the week. that is nearly where it was during hurricane matthew two years ago, and that was absolutely devastating for this area. see whatever mitigation efforts, whatever preparation efforts people are doing, they need to happen pretty quick in the next couple days because that wa
forecast. very expensive to evacuate areas outside the forecasted track. dana: i m interested in that mission like how you try to figure out a way to be most efficient so that the government resources can be where they need to be. so, as i mentioned, there is big data voids out there in the ocean. the models have to kind of guess as to what it might what the weather might be in those areas. so when we go out and get data in those voids, the models can then kind of narrow down the uncertainty in their track. and if we know where it s going better, then we can focus our efforts, our preparation efforts and it can be less costly, less coast line that we have to worry about if we know better where it s going. dana: that s super smart and taxpayers appreciate it and certainly the people there in the area there as well. lieutenant commander nicholas morgan. thank you and stay safe. all right. thank you. appreciate it. dana: and now for a few other stories you should know about. i
the preparation efforts are in the infancy. is that a big deal, david? it will be if he does it. the think the question that needs to be answered is, is he following his own advice or going to follow the advice of the lawyers. and so much of what we ve seen lately in every realm has been that this president now is flying by his own lights and not taking a lot of advice. he s obviously lead lawyer quit. and so there are many, many legal people who will tell you, including people on the show, that they wouldn t testify if he had the option. and yet he seems to be moving forward. in any case, he should be preparing if there is any chance he will testify because this is not something that he can sort of bow guard his way through as he s done you mentioned his lead lawyer quit. what about the lack of lawyers.
