ANN ARBOR, MI More than 140 short-term rental properties in Ann Arbor’s residential neighborhoods may keep operating under new regulations finalized this week.
City Council voted 7-4 along factional lines to OK new rules with exceptions allowing existing short-term rentals like dedicated Airbnb houses to remain in neighborhoods.
The previous council voted last September to ban them effective March 1, but Mayor Christopher Taylor and his allies, who regained control of council in November, now are allowing existing operators to continue in hopes of avoiding a lawsuit fight they think the city would lose.
“It is a total package for people with a aligned purpose to live and work,” she said.

ANN ARBOR, MI The latest concept in rental housing for working professionals has opened its doors in Ann Arbor, with a full array of amenities for car-free, sustainable living.
The 4M campus at 830 Henry St. is a 63-bed apartment building with several built-in co-working spaces, including a podcast studio, private conference rooms with teleconferencing centers, a video production studio/set, open collaborative spaces and lots of network amenities.
With stays marketed at $75-$85 per night, it may blur the line between short-term and long-term rental housing, but the first 60 tenants who arrived this month have all committed to staying at least 90 days, said 4M developer Heidi Poscher of Prentice Partners of Ann Arbor.

ANN ARBOR, MI Short-term rental property owners and investors in Ann Arbor may sue the city if a pending ban on their businesses isn’t lifted by City Council.
There’s a group of about 50 local residents who each own maybe one or two or three properties that, for a considerable time, they’ve legally operated as Airbnbs, said group member Heidi Poscher, co-owner of real estate development company Prentice Partners of Ann Arbor.
