this was a shocker. an anchorage police chief has said that parts of the scenic highway from alaska towards the mountains and glaciers has disappeared following the earthquake. this might be separate from other roads and arteries, for example, go from anchorage to other points south. the point of the matter is, officials are evaluating the damage to the glenn highway. some are so significant it could take a long time to remare. the images that we got from folks before we got up here make it looks like these are completely untraversable, that you can t get around. this is surprising in that there wasn t more reported serious damage. certainly this is nothing to take lightly. kathy joins us from the university of alaska. kathy what are you noticing there? well, we had quite a shake here with the major portion of the earthquake that came around 8:30 a.m. alaska time.
