According to City Administrator Stephanie Ellwein, several of the nonprofits that asked for subsidies saw significant growth in their cash fund balances in recent years.
“Rather than give the algae food it needs to survive and thrive, the islands help take that phosphorus and nutrients,” Mayor Bob Everson said of the man-made vegetation islands that the city placed in a bay at Lake Mitchell.
