Pregnant Aussie mothers are being denied access to drugs to treat pregnancy symptoms namely nausea and vomiting by the pharmacists and medical practitioners because of misleading labels and a lack of awareness about clinical guidelines.
A new study surveyed 249 Australian women who suffered from severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy (NVP) or hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) and examined their experiences in accessing medications during pregnancy.
The research, published in ANZJOG, coincides with International Hyperemesis Gravidarum Awareness day on May 15th.
‘One in four women reported being denied medications for nausea and vomiting at some stage during pregnancy. This most commonly involved the over-the-counter medicine doxylamine and interactions with community pharmacists.’

Pregnant women can now be admitted in hospitals and given medical care without waiting for the mandatory Covid report, said the Lucknow District Magistrate Roshan Jacob.
The order from the district magistrate came after reports that pregnant women were being made to wait outside hospitals and on stretchers and in ambulances in the absence of the Covid report.
The district magistrate s order now says that a reserve area for pregnant women needs to be created in all hospitals and patients need to be attended immediately.

Nursing mothers who are vaccinated pass protective antibodies to their babies through breast milk for at least 80 days, reveals a new research from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. Our study showed a huge boost in antibodies against the COVID-19 virus in breast milk starting two weeks after the first shot, and this response was sustained for the course of our study, which was almost three months long, said first author Jeannie Kelly, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology.
