The Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU) is awaiting the outcome of a meeting between Minister of Labour Colin Jordan and management of Preconco Ltd to determine the next step the union would take in the labour issue that developed at the company yesterday.
BWU General Secretary Toni Moore visited the workers outside the Lears Road, Jackmans, St Michael company this morning to discuss the situation.
Moore said the issue was no longer a Preconco workers’ problem but an infringement of trade union laws, making it a legal and national workers’ issue.
She said the situation should not have to develop into a demonstration but she was prepared to rally the members of the union if need be.
Workers at Preconco Ltd are at this moment off the job. Preliminary reports suggest some workers were sent home, including shop stewards, and deputy general secretary of the Barbados Workers’ Union, Dwaine Paul, is currently meeting with employees at the Lears, St Michael business. More details as they come. (SB) [embed]https://youtu.be/BwotAczZnLM[/embed]
