there could be something constructive to come out of that sort of visit and today this absolute collapse of expectations. the civility message of pope francis, you re right, was such the dichotomy between that and this discussion we have devolved into. it s interesting. we have had reports today that when john boehner gave his resignation statement, he also flipped the prayer card over that had been handed out by the diocese yesterday and recited to the caucus, we re told, the prayer of saint francis. lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. i think when people are talking about it being an emotional meeting, that may be part of the emotion there. so many layers of the humans involved with john boehner being so devoutly catholic and the cross kurns involved in who is
lucky enough will be able to meet the pope. was that like can you reach out and touch pope francis and give him a little arm slap? is that okay? with this pope, it certainly is. he s very informal. so i think he enjoys as much personal contact as he can get actually. so if you re in a crowd and you see the pope approach you, what s the appropriate way? you should say your holiness or your most holy father. this guy probably wouldn t mind frank, but that s the official way. this pope is really informal. he loves getting down with the people. he is touching e everybody. i noticed on the plane, rosa pull pulled out a prayer card. she was going to give it as a gift. a lot of journalists have gifts they give to the pope. he took it and surprised and kissed it. she s from mexico. it s very important saint in
plane and give him a hug. i didn t dare hug the holy father, but i delivered the message. as soon as he hears this it priest s name, he starts going off on him saying, i have to tell you this story. he said a few days before, this priest comes up to me and says, how are you feeling, are you calm? he s like why would you ask me that? why would you ask me that? and so after that, he blessed a couple of items for me. i gave him a little humble gift, a little prayer card and i don t know if you re showing the video now, but as soon as he sees that card, he grabs it from my hand and starts kiss iing it. i go speechless and then he offered me his blessing. it was amazing. that is a lifetime highlight
maybe they are outside of the airport, but we re not seeing very many inside, so i got to point that out, because it definitely stands out when it comes to pope francis and the crowds that he usually gathers, so we re taking a look at the pope here walking for some photos, but about the photo that you mentioned of the pope giving me a blessing, it was such a special moment, chris. i spent probably about 45 seconds with the pope and we joked a bit, because i spoke to one of his friends before getting off the plane and so he laughed and joked and said everybody around us, pretty imagi magical. i brought him a little gift, as you know, mexican-americans, it s very important, so i had a gift for him. i gave him a prayer card. his face just lit up. i can t wait for you guys to get this video so you can see. he kissed the prayer card. it was just a great moment, chris.
tell me, poppy, hear this. he says this father, how dare he come to me two days before the conclave and ask me how i m doing. he s like, who in their right mind would ask me that. oh, with just such emotion, poppy. everybody around us, i can t wait to show you this video, because everybody just starts laughing, and then i had a tiny token, a small gift for the holy father, as you probably know, mexican catholics are very devout to our lady of guadalupe, so i brought a little prayer for him, because, of course, i m mexican, mexican-american, so f. as soon as he sees it, he grabs my prayer card from my hand, he starts kissing it. oh, i almost went speechless, because i wanted to chat with him and i m looking at the pope and he is just lighting up, looking at our lady of guadalupe, then, of course, i asked him for his blessing and
