Uttarakhand Forest Fires: The ongoing firefighting operation in Uttarakhand s forests, aided by an Indian Air Force helicopter, continued for the second day. Eight new forest fires were reported, consuming 11.75 hectares of land.
Heightened dryness caused by a heat wave in Champawat and Nainital districts, bordering Nepal has been reported as the prime reason for wildfires in Uttarakhand. Himalayas have been witnessing dry spell since September, with deficient winter rain and less snowfall reported in several regions
The forest fires are gradually being controlled with the flames already doused in many areas. The fires in Marora and Khanana civil areas in Maniknath range of the Narendranagar forest division have been completely extinguished, officials said.
