Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By Express News Service BHAWANIPATNA: Giving a ‘smart’ makeover to solid waste management, Bhawanipatna Municipality has flagged off  20 e-rickshaws. Funded under the Swachh Bharat Mission, six battery-operated e-rickshaws have been rolled out in the first phase with an investment of ` 16 lakhs with 20 other rickshaws in the pipeline. The rickshaws, manned by members of women self-help groups (SHGs), were unveiled by Leader of Opposition Pradipta Kumar Naik. “Each rickshaw will collect dry and wet waste from 600 households in two separate compartments attached to it. Maintenance and salaries of the lady drivers and helpers, who are undergoing training, will be paid from user fees collected from households and returns from the waste processing units,” said Biswambar Mishra, executive officer of Bhawanipatna Municipality.

BJD, BJP clash over paddy sale | Bhubaneswar News

BHUBANESWAR: Politics over paddy procurement turned murkier with leaders of the ruling BJD and BJP engaging in a war of words over it. As the opposition BJP launched a protest march in Sambalpur on Thursday against the Naveen Patnaik government against gross irregularities in paddy procurement, the ruling BJD on Friday hit back at the BJP saying the opposition’s tactics is to divert attention from farmers’ agitation in New Delhi. Addressing a news conference here, BJD spokesperson Shreemayee Mishra said not a single grain of paddy of genuine farmers will be left for procurement and the BJD government guarantees this.

Orissa HC rejects govt's plea for sitting judge to monitor SIT probe: RTI reply | Bhubaneswar News

Representative image BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa high court has turned down the state government’s request to appoint a sitting judge of the court to monitor an SIT probe into the alleged rape and murder of a five-year-old girl in Nayagarh district in July last year, according to an RTI reply. On November 28 last year, the state home department’s special secretary, Santosh Bala, had written to the registrar general of the high court about the government’s decision for an HC-monitored SIT probe into the Nayagarh case. In the letter, the government had requested the Chief Justice to accord permission to monitor the SIT probe by a sitting judge of the high court.
