Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh
MUMBAI: Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday said Maha Vikas Aghadi government will take back cases filed against people under section 188 of Indian Penal Code (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) for disobeying orders issued during lockdown.
He said that due process will be followed while cases are taken back. Senior officials said during lockdown in the state over a lakh cases were filed for violation of section 188 against people caught by police on streets.
Deshmukh was speaking after meeting a delegation of NCP office-bearers who said many people were caught on streets during lockdown and are now being sent notices under section 188, and cases will be filed against them. The delegation demanded that most cases were of people out on streets for genuine reasons and the home department should take a humanitarian view and take back the cases.
