first time from a group called the national doctor s tea party. they seem to be most angry with the american medical association for supporting that overhaul. joining me now is dr. adam doran, president of the tea party doctors and a board certified anesthesiologist. thank you for being here. you are fighting mad about this healthcare law and really upset with the american medical association, the ama which you say abandoned the doctors and their interests. how so? thank you, megyn for having me, you re absolutely correct. the american immediate association represents at best about 17% of practicing physicians. there are 750,000 actively practicing physicians in the united states. some suggest that the ama s membership now is down to about 10%. despite that and despite the fact they have an exclusive coding deal with the u.s. government to have the copy rights for the codes that all doctors must use to bill for insurance, government or not, they betrayed their own constituents. they
just pull out the hitler baby one. terrible, terrible, terrible. i don t know. maybe this is a new twist on baby pictures. i don t think so, greg. she started a trend. i don t know. she is exploiting her child. i don t know. it is evil and cute. there you go. from dictators to doctaters. according to a new survey, my second favorite new england journal, by the way. 1/3 of all practicing physicians will quit medicine if president obama signs the current healthcare reform legislation into law. even better, if you throw the public option into the mix, that number goes to 45%. that s like a thousand percent increase, bill. now more than half of doctors surveyed say obama care will cause the quality of america s medical care to de tear yes,
back-and-forth in washington about health care, how do you just combat that message from the president when a lot of people think, they just hear from the republicans, no? well, what we heard was another campaign speech from the president. the way that i combat that discussion about natoma, is the experience that i draw from, upon being a physician for over 20 years, treating thousands of patients like natoma and others, who know in their heart of hearts that when the federal government gets their hands on what they re trying to get their hands on in health care, that we will in fact destroy the quality of health care in this nation. and that s what concerns me, and so many of the practicing physicians across this land so much. and that is, that once the government inserts itself into this process, into that physician/patient relationship, we destroy something that s unique and highest quality in the world in health care. that s what i know the american physicians are worried about.
