While Govardhan Puja is usually celebrated a day after Diwali, there might be a days gap, depending on the Pratipada Tithi. The day commemorates the day when Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan Hill to shield the people of Gokul village from Lord Indra’s fury, which led to heavy rain and floods.
This festival is observed on the day following Diwali and Lakshmi pooja, which usually falls on the first lunar day of the Hindu month of Kartik. In 2023, Govardhan Puja will be celebrated on November 13.
