SA Power Networks says undergrounding all of South Australia’s overhead power lines would cost up to $60 billion and there are more cost-effective ways to increase bushfire safety and tree canopy.
Have you noticed something missing from the Gumeracha main street?
Stobie poles that have lined the street for decades are coming down this week along Albert Street from the Soldiers Memorial Hospital to Randell Terrace in the first step in the Gumeracha streetscape upgrade.
With underground power cables now operational, Mayor Jan-Claire Wisdom says the community-driven upgrade of the Gumeracha Main Street, that emerged from extensive consultation in the local area, is helping to transform the economic sustainability of local businesses and the visual appeal of the whole town.
“The stobie poles have served this town by providing electricity for many decades but it is now time for them to go,” Mayor Wisdom says.
