Belagavi: How were 138 pourakarmikas appointed on contract by the Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) 11 months ago without following any departmental pro.
Piyusha Negi, a resident on Harris Road, said, “I really feel sad for the current state of the junction. Walking near the Bore Bank junction is an assault on the senses. The stench is overpowering, and the sight is distressing. Despite our recent interaction with a BBMP contractor who directed the pourakarmikas to clear the debris, this remains a short-term fix. Regular and thorough cleaning is the need of the hour.”
The High Court of Karnataka recently noted that additional toilets are needed in areas under the jurisdiction of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) as the number of public toilets currently available is very minimal in relation to the requirement. It has said that the government has responsibility towards residents of the city with regard to public hygiene and other basic facilities.
