On Friday, around 2 a.m. Poughkeepsie firefighters were dispatched at approximately by City of Poughkeepsie 911 for a reported structure at 5 Parker Avenue, the Walkway Over The Hudson Maintenance Center.
Firefighters arrived with heavy smoke showing from the structure and initially made entry, but conditions rapidly deteriorated and all personnel were removed from the building, officials say.
Firefighters then worked to secure enough water to support two elevated master streams and the operation went defensive, according to the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department NY Local 596 s Facebook page.

Two men were hospitalized, one in critical condition, after fleeing from New York State Police troopers in an allegedly stolen vehicle before crashing in the area.
Troopers on patrol at approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, May 7 on Route 9W in Ulster County in the Town of Lloyd attempted to stop the driver of a 2005 Nissan Sentra after he committed a traffic violation.
The troopers initiated a traffic stop, police said, but as they approached the Nissan, the driver - later identified as 20-year-old Poughkeepsie resident Anthony Ermo sped away from the scene, prompting a pursuit.
Police said that Ermo proceeded over the Mid-Hudson Bridge into the City of Poughkeepsie before losing control at the intersection of South White Street and Route 44/45, causing the Nissan to overturn and then roll over several times before crashing into a home.
A local man was killed after he jumped from an area bridge.
The incident took place around 6:05 p.m., Saturday, April 24 in Dutchess County when 37-year-old Brendan J. Paredes, of Wappinger, jumped from the bridge on the Walkway Over the Hudson in the City of Poughkeepsie, said New York State Police Trooper AJ Hicks.
State Police, New York State Park Police, City of Poughkeepsie Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, and the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department all responded to the bridge in an attempt to rescue Paredes, Hicks said.
Paredes body was recovered around 6:30 p.m., by the City of Poughkeepsie Fire Department, he said.
