Mare Of Easttown is, more than anything else, a tour de force for its star, Kate Winslet, who owns this series, top to bottom. She plays a smalltown Pennsylvania detective, and while there are echoes of Happy Valley (the central character is a weary and damaged yet durable middle-aged woman) and Broadchurch (it is set amid a community and cares as much about its characters as the plot), it’s still its own thing, and Winslet will have to make further room in her trophy cabinet, or buy a second, or perhaps she’s already on her tenth by now?
