Vaccines come to Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs

Teens 16 years old or older were able to get vaccinated at Abraham Lincoln High School Tuesday. It kicked off Pottawattamie County s new micro-mobile clinic initiative which aims to take vaccines to different places in the community.They got the Pfizer vaccine, which is currently approved for teens 16 and older. Soon, it could receive emergency authorization for people as young as 12.Sixteen-year-old Jennifer Rangel Mendoza feels a lot better knowing she can now protect those around her. Even just getting a first dose, it s like a weight off my shoulders, Mendoza said.The sophomore says her mom was hesitant about her getting the vaccine at first. She was just worried for my health but I talked her into it saying I m doing it for you and for my family, 17-year-old Noah Sandbothe said. Some Iowa Girl Scouts sweeten the deal for vaccinations

Updated: 7:12 AM CDT Apr 27, 2021 An Iowa Girl Scout troop is helping sweeten the deal to get vaccinated against COVID-19.The girls are part of a troop based at a Council Bluffs homeless shelter who had a record year of cookie sales.Some of their customers even bought boxes to be donated to worthy causes.Those cookies went to the Pottawattamie County Health Department to give to people after they get vaccinated.In all, the health department received nearly 2,400 boxes of treats like Thin Mints, Samoas and Tagalongs.Find out how you can get vaccinated in Iowa here.
