Pott County reports 13 active COVID-19 cases, down from 24 a week ago

Pottawatomie County currently has 13 active COVID-19 cases, which is down from June 23 when there were 24. 11 positive cases connected to COVID-19 variants of concern have also been confirmed since the tracking of variants began earlier this year. This includes five cases of the B.1.1.7 Alpha variant and six cases of the B.1.617.2 Delta variant. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers a variant of concern to be relatively more transmissible, harmful or resistant to vaccines or treatment. The annual festival draws in thousands to the city for two days filled with 120 vendors, live entertainment in the park and a beer, wine and cider tasting event. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jason Toll says they’re hoping this weekend prepares them for Wamego’s other large events. “All of last year, canceling all the events, we were real hesitant on how to come back and thought if we did it right, this could be a breakthrough and looking forward to 4th of July and paving the way,” he said.
