The senate president sympathises with those whose stalls, wares and other valuables were affected by the fire incident
The President of the Senate,
Ahmad Lawan, has commiserated with the victims of a fire disaster at Potiskum Central Market, Yobe.
Mr Lawan’s Special Adviser on Media, Ola Awoniyi, said this in a statement in Abuja.
Goods estimated at millions of naira were destroyed in the incident on Saturday.
“The senate president sympathises with those whose stalls, wares and other valuables were affected by the fire incident.
“He also thanked God that the incident involved no loss of life.
Usman M. Muktar, has taken over as the new head of the Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC.
Muktar, a Chief Detective Superintendent, took over from Chief Detective Superintendent Oseni Kazeem Oluwasina, who has been redployed to Makurdi office of the anti-graft agency as the new zonal head.
A top anti-corruption czar, Muktar, comes into his new post with a lot of experience, a statement by the Ilorin Zonal office of the commission, announced in Ilorin on Thursday.
Speaking at the formal taking over ceremony, on Thursday, April 1,2021, Muktar, charged officers of the zone to see the task of spearheading the fight against corruption in the zone as a service to one’s fatherland.

The President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has felicitated with Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as he marks his 64th birthday anniversary on Monday, March 8, 2021.
Lawan, in a congratulatory message issued by his Media Adviser, Ola Awoniyi, joined Osinbajo’s family and friends across and outside Nigeria in celebrating the erudite lawyer, intellectual giant, respected religious leader and distinguished administrator on this auspicious occasion.
According to him, “His Excellency, Professor Osinbajo, has made his marks in his many fields of endeavour and particularly in the administration of our great nation.
“I pray that God Almighty will continue to imbue him with wisdom and good health as he ably supports President Muhammadu Buhari in their patriotic mission to transform Nigeria and unite its people in happiness and prosperity.
Over ten shops with goods worth N30 million were burnt to ashes following last night’s fire incident that occurred at the grocery section of Potiskum Central Market in Yobe State.
Chairman United Marketers Association Potiskum Chapter, Alhaji Nasiru Mato disclosed this while giving account of the sad development.
He also said eight persons sustained minor injuries from the incident and had since been discharged after receiving medical attention.
On the cause of the inferno, Mato said, “we believe that the fire broke out as result of an electrical spark when public power was restored.
“That was why even prior to this incident, we have been warning our members to always switch off all electrical appliances when they close for business, but some are violating this cautionary massage”.
