to do with us. we re trying to tell them, i don t care what happens with manafort. the president s lawyer saying he doesn t care what happens to manafort. donald trump has tweeted about it, and seems to care. meanwhile, bob mueller is not discussing any of these negotiations in public, or through intermediaries. meanwhile, giuliani digging in on a new strategy on a key element that could come up in the potential obstruction case regarding the fbi, because there s a denial that trump now even talked to james comey who was at the time fbi director about that famous allegation that trump allegedly said it was time to go easy on mike flynn. we re worried about perjury trap because the president says he didn t have the conversation about flynn. the way the way that comey says he had the conversation, he didn t have it, not that they never spoke. didn t have it at all. that s a new position. it is not. the president has said to you i never said any word to him ever about flyn
potential obstruction case. the new york times reported yesterday they are looking at all of the tweets that trump has done where he slammed sessions and rosenstein and mueller and comey. i think that s the stronger charge and not the collusion and conspiracy. this does not help trump s credibility one bit because if he knew about the meeting, why has he been lying to the american people about that fact? i think he has been trying to cover it up. this is an embarrassing meeting. it is called the trump tower meeting. he just did not want his knowledge about that to come out. let s talk about the president yesterday. he was in iowa for a couple of hours and went to granite city, illinois. he could legitimately take credit for 800 jobs for two blast furnaces because of his steel tariffs. tearful steel workers so happy for his help in getting their
won t comply with and then we have contempt of court and a court order, he could take the position that i m head of the justice department, i m head of the article two branch. i determine that this prosecution does not go forward. so, of course, mr. mueller s trump card, for lack of a better word, is the subpoena power. the president can t refuse to testify under oath before the grand jury. and in that context he wouldn t have his lawyers with him. any defense lawyer is going to be really worried about putting a client am that circumstance. quickly before i play another sound bite when he said i ll even do it under oath, isn t it a crime to lie to the fbi? why is the under oath part so key? it s a crime to lie to the fbi but perjury has different implications. there are similar crimes but two separate statutes here, two separate crimes, yeah. the president also commenting on this potential obstruction case. listen to this. do you think robert mueller
you have seen attacks that they know the charges are false with no regard to the careers of long-time public servant who is have risked their lives and reputations to save national security with no regard to the long-term reputation and effects on these institutions. all to subvert an investigation into whether a foreign country subverted our democracy. it s a low moment for the country. it s rock bottom for the republican party that professes to support law enforcement. let s talk as former u.s. attorney about this precedent. the president asking the new fbi director about how he voted and how this could fit into what mueller is building from what we know of whom he is interviewing a potential obstruction case. it really lends itself to this idea of a pattern of behavior in the same way that he asked jim comey for his loyalty
