Nathan Smith, seen here batting against the Northern Knights, is leaving the Otago Volts to head to Wellington.
Potential Black Cap Nathan Smith is on his way to the capital – and Otago Cricket isn’t thrilled about it. The organisation announced on Wednesday that the 22-year-old is moving to Cricket Wellington for the 2021/22 season and described the switch as a “shock decision to Otago Cricket performance management” in its media release. Smith has played 80 matches for Otago across three formats, since making his debut in 2016, and had played for NZ under-19 and NZ A sides. Otago Cricket Performance Manager Simon Forde said he was devastated to lose Smith.
