Wareham Postmaster Linda Nix retires after 38 years

WAREHAM – A chapter in the history of Wareham’s postal service came to a close on Friday, April 30.
That was Postmaster Linda Nix’s last day on the job, following a 38-year career that began when the Wareham native started out as a letter carrier in California.
Nix is now part of that history, a history she knows well.
She outlined Wareham’s postal history during a presentation before the Wareham Historical Society in 2015.
Nix told those gathered about the institution’s two-plus centuries of service, beginning with its first postmaster, Benjamin Fearing, in 1800. The first official post “office” was the Fearing Tavern.
