Posterior vitreous detachment is usually painless and may not impair vision. However complications such as retinal detachment may ensue. Vitreous fills most of the interior of the eyes.
There are a couple of medical ways to get rid of floaters. The most accepted is a procedure called a vitrectomy, which surgically removes the vitreous.
Question: I have recently started seeing flashes. It has never happened to me before and I am not sure whether to see my GP or optician. It didn’t bother me at first, as I assumed it was the light reflecting off a car passing or something, but then the other night it happened when I was asleep. I am still not 100pc sure that it wasn’t a light flickering between the curtains but I would like to get checked out all the same. What could this be and how do I go about getting it seen to?
