The highly communicable new coronavirus, called SARS-CoV-2, differs from other respiratory viruses in that human-to-human transmission may occur anywhere from 2 to 10 days before the individual becomes symptomatic with the disease that we all now know as COVID-19. The range of disease severity varies between asymptomatic infection and mild upper respiratory disorder through severe viral pneumonia with respiratory failure and even death. Current estimates are that approximately 5% of those affected will require treatment in intensive care units (ICUs), including ventilation and life support. NEW DELHI: The Centre on Monday said India has witnessed a steady decline in daily new Covid-19 cases since the last 17 days.
During a press briefing, the Centre said there has been 2.6 times increase in the number of Covid tests done in the past 15 weeks in the country along with a steady dip in the weekly positivity rate reported in the last two weeks.
However, AIIMS chief Randeep Guleria pointed out that several people who have recovered from the infection have observed post-Covid symptoms and there is a need to treat them as well. If your symptoms persist for 4 - 12 weeks, it is regarded as ongoing post-Covid acute syndrome. If symptoms are seen for more than 12 weeks, it is called post-Covid syndrome or long Covid, the AIIMS chief said.

India on Saturday reported 3,26,098 new Covid-19 cases and 3,890 fatalities in 24 hours. This pushed the country’s case count to 2,43,72,907 and toll to 2,66,207 since the pandemic began in January. There are 36,73,802 active cases and 2,04,32,898 patients have recovered from the disease so far.
