Urban seagull census The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) has called on the people of Portugal to heklp them to register seagulls in urban areas during May. SPEA says that the information collected will contribute to the national census of the yellow-legged gull, whose main objective is to estimate the number of breeding pairs and the distribution of breeding areas. “All observations are important, and will help us to assess the current status of this species, which, over the last few decades, has been expanding its nesting area, especially to urban areas”, explains the conservation technician Nuno Oliveira.
