Covid-19 death of âfit and activeâ karate master shocks Mitchells Plain

The Grandmaster of Karate in Mitchells Plain, Shihan Wallace Fortuin, died due to Covid-19 on Sunday.
The 64-year-old dad of two taught karate in the Plain for more than 42 years and was known as a legend of his craft.
Shihan Wallace was the owner of Shukokai Karate dojo based at the Portlands Recreational Hall and Portlands Indoor Centre where he gave classes throughout the week.
Shihan is a Japanese honorific in the martial arts, given to experts or senior instructors. It can be translated as master instructor .
