Face covering. Members who are not wearing a Face Covering are not permitted to remain in the hearing room and will not be recognized to speak. Let me also make a few reminders about hybrid hearings. For those members appearing in person, you will be able to see members appearing remotely on the two monitors in front of you. On one monitor you will see all the members appearing remotely at once and what is known as web x, as grid view mode. On the other monitor, you will see each person speaking during the hearing when they are speaking, including members who are appearing remotely. For those members appearing remotely, you can also see each person speaking during the hearing whether they are in person or remote, as long as you have your web x set to active speaker mode. If you have any questions about this, please contact the staff immediately. Let me remind everyone of the house procedures that apply to hybrid hearings. For members appearing in person, it timer is visible in the room
Obviously see is a distractor question. There is nothing relevant there obviously. Obviously. A and b are plausible. Either of those actually make sense. If you are confused, just Google Google them and they we will make more sense to you shortly. In all in all seriousness we all know probably everyone in this room has taken a test a standardized test at one point or another. There nothing new. Theyve been around for a long time but it seems like were living in a moment where the stakes attached to tests have never been higher. Not only do standardized tests determine a childs future in many cases but they can determine the future of the teacher working with that child the future of principals and administrators the guidance counselor, the gym teacher, the music teacher, the teacher, the art teacher everybodys fate, sometimes the whole schools fate can be bound up with the results of a test or even the fate of all districts. What districts. What is interesting about this moment is that
Next, Jesse Hagopian, editor of more than a score, and history teacher Garfield High School in seattle, washington, takes a look at standardized testing. Thank you. So welcome everybody for braving the elements and making it out here. My name is brian jones, im an educator and activist. And as jason said im going to moderate our event. Just a few words about the event and then we will kick off. I will introduce the panelists and let them kick it off and then well have discussion after that. We are here for a very important reason. Eight, to mourn the decision to not run Marchand Lynch on the one yard line last night. [laughter] b, to protect Jesse Hagopian from future pepper spray incident last night c to talk to pineapple or d to celebrate the launch of this book more than a score the new uprising against highstakes testing. Now obviously c is a distractor question. Theres nothing relevant. Just eliminate that one right off the bat but a and b are plausible. Either those make sense bu
Only possible criticism is that they scheduled me right up against mr. Gwyn next door. I used to teach civil war history. Lots of books come out on the civil war but not many of them are as good as his book rebel yell. Of all of possible people to be scheduled up against i find that a little daunting coin. Thank you for being here. Is event must be full. Second i thank my host j. Ford was my host last night, took me to a wonderful dinner, the only possible qualm i have with that is took me after the authors reception, it was very late and was the pink house. They brought me a piece of fish that is bigger than a plate, the tailstock out on one end and there was so much food that i am stuff and i figure i have to speak. The only wise than i did was liquor too. I turned down the wine and liquor and dime stuff from that food. I was not so lucky at lunch. I had a wonderful pleasure of you probably know him. A wonderful daughter and couldnt restrain on of liquor, not being there with sunny.
Sorts of challenges within the test. With the performancebased assessment you cant imagine that happening in being mandated for a couple a couple weeks a year unless you had some Crazy Society that was trying to produce a a nation of stat spies. If you integrate teaching and learning and the teachers are engaged in their integrating their own selfworth flexion, i flexion, i think thats really important. I was really struck by the student being prompt by their achievement and how they got where they were. That was a really huge part of it. You can make students do that and that can be part of the outcomes youre trying to assess and create, for sure. Was there anything that while you were in the process of writing this book, changes you as a parent the way you dealt with your daughter . I was inclined in this direction anyway but i was led to downplay her intellectual growth for her social emotional growth. If anything i learned and this i learned and this might be helpful to anyone who
