The RDI Hub in Killorglin is taking centre stage in Kerry’s start-up scene as part of the national consortium recently awarded the government contract to manage the National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) service for start-ups.
The €17 million contract will see the RDI Hub (Rdihub.com) work alongside Dogpatch Labs in Dublin, the Republic of Work in Cork and Portershed Galway to manage the rollout of NDRC accelerator programmes regionally.

Dogpatch Labs Dublin and its regional partners Portershed Galway, Republic of Work Cork, and RDI Hub Kerry will deliver mentorship-driven accelerator and pre-accelerator programmes, and pre-seed funding to entrepreneurs across Ireland
The group will invest in globally-focused, ‘high impact’ startups, to create world-class internationally scalable Irish companies.
The NDRC was established in 2006 and is a Government initiative to invest in young digital enterprises and start-ups.
The long-running saga over who will run the state-subsidised, startup-focused National Digital Research Centre (NDRC) has come to a conclusion with the award of a €17m, five-year contract to a consortium headed by Patrick Walsh’s Dogpatch Labs.
The NDRC will give a minimum of 13 startups per year €100,000, workspace and access to further funding sources and established “mentor” entrepreneurs.
As the figurehead of the NDRC consortium, Mr Walsh will receive a salary that’s “under six figures”, he said.
Last year, the outgoing CEO of the NDRC, Ben Hurley, was paid €254,000, including a one-off payment. In the three years prior to that, he was paid €160,000 per annum.

Dogpatch Labs, supported by its partner hubs in Cork, Kerry and Galway, has been awarded the €17m contract to manage the National Digital Research Centre service for the next five years.
Established in 2006, the National Digital Research Centre is a Government initiative to invest in very young digital enterprises and start-ups.
As part of the NDRC deal, Dogpatch Labs Dublin and its regional partners - Portershed Galway, Republic of Work Cork and RDI Hub Kerry - will deliver mentorship-driven accelerator and pre-accelerator programmes, and pre-seed funding to entrepreneurs across Ireland.
