Gov. Hochul made a big mistake, we’re talking hundreds of million of dollars here, in signing a Memorandum of Understanding with New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy to go 50/50 on the local cost of the Portal North Bridge, a $2 billion and rising piece of Amtrak’s $35 billion and rising Gateway boondoggle.
The Portal North Bridge project will build a new bridge over the Hackensack River in northern New Jersey to replace a 112-year-old swing bridge that occasionally becomes stuck after opening to allow boats to pass underneath.
