KSBY and last updated 2021-07-03 21:59:44-04 One person was rescued from the cliff at Pirates Cove after reportedly getting trapped Saturday afternoon. According to CAL FIRE SLO, emergency crews responded to a cliff rescue at Pirates Cove in Avila Beach around 5:20 p.m. A 38-year-old man had fallen down the cliff and sustained a laceration to his head, according to officials. Rescuers were able to reach him from the beach. The patient has been transported to a local hospital for his injuries.

PATROLLING THE HARBOR While some would like to see Port San Luis Harbor Patrol use of force policies revamped, others say the patrol s low number of use of force incidents speaks for itself. The Port San Luis Harbor Patrol responds to hundreds of calls for service each year, and in the last 10 years, the agency recorded 22 instances in which its officers used force. In 2014, a Harbor Patrol officer used pepper spray on a person who had smashed in car windows with a metal pole and threatened to kill passersby. A joint manipulation technique was used in 2018 to restrain and handcuff a person who had been fighting with bouncers at Mr. Rick s in Avila Beach, and in 2020, a Harbor Patrol officer used a modified takedown technique to restrain a person who had threatened to kill someone, brandished a 12-inch knife, and then attempted to headbutt a sheriff s deputy.

Fresno homicide suspects arrested in Avila Beach

Both Davon Tyriq Thomas (pictured above) and Emanuel Johnson (no photo available) were arrested for outstanding murder warrants in Fresno. –On Feb. 3, San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 3200 block of Avila Beach Drive in Avila Beach for a domestic disturbance that was occurring in a parking lot at that location. Upon arrival, deputies conducted a record check of a vehicle associated with the subjects. The check revealed the vehicle was associated with two homicide suspects out of Fresno. The suspects were identified as 21-year-old Davon Thomas and 23-year-old Emanuel Johnson, both from Fresno. A law enforcement advisory warned that the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
